Wellesley Youth Field Hockey's Fall Program is offered to all players in grades 1-8th who live in Wellesley or attend a Wellesley school.

 

While turf field space is limited in Wellesley and daylight also limits our time in late Fall, WYFH always tries to secure field space with the town of Wellesley.  USA Field Hockey promotes learning field hockey on turf for a # of reasons including building confidence in young players to move the ball up and down the field and help safety concerns since balls will move better on turf and therefore less "hacking". 

 

• Skills & Scrimmages Program - once a week on Sunday mornings*

• League Play - 2x week practice & Saturday games

Skills & Scrimmages Program - $175/player

Open to all 1st - 2th graders in Wellesley.  One-hour clinics focused on teaching fundamental field hockey skills (1st half of practice), conditioning and game play (2nd half of practice). This is a great opportunity to get players introduced to the sport of field hockey in a fun environment.

Dates: 9/7, 9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12, 10/19 & 10/26

Commonwealth League Play

Each season, as WYFH secures field space, we will update our Fall Program to provide players with the practice & game schedule including field location prior to the season start date.

​

Starting Fall 2024, all 3rd grade players and any new players who didn't have a uniform last year (or outgrew or did not save their

prior year uniform) will need to order and purchase a new uniform.

The uniform store will be open in June. Stay tuned!

This program gives players the opportunity to learn field hockey and play games in the Commonwealth Field Hockey League.

This league has the following grade divisions: 

• Grades 3/4; fee $350/player​ - 2x week practice (Mondays & Wednesdays)* + game

• Grades 5/6; fee $350/player - 2x week practice (Mondays & Thursdays)* + game 

• Grades 7/8; fee $350/player - 2x week practice (Tuesdays & Wednesdays)* + game

First Practice - Tuesday, September 5th.

Practice Location @ Wellesley Sprague Turf Field #3. 

Practice times are generally 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm (or dusk, whichever is later).*

Games are played on Saturdays. Home games are played at Wellesley Sprague Turf Field #3.

The objective the Commonwealth Field Hockey League is to promote girls youth field hockey in an environment that:

• Emphasizes fun, while developing skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, self confidence and integrity

• Strives to provide equal playing time for all players

• Creates balanced teams at each age level 

• Adheres to a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct of players, coaches and spectators.

Wellesley Youth Field Hockey supports these objectives.  

​There is no prior playing experience required to register.  All players will be placed on balanced teams.

​

We cannot stress how important timely registration is for our program so that we do not have to limit the number of players. For team-based programs, we have a responsibility to our Wellesley players and other field hockey programs and leagues to register for the correct number of teams that we can enter. We register the number of teams based on the number of registrations in our system as of the league registration deadline. At that time, the league expects Wellesley Youth Field Hockey to commit to the # of teams registered in each age division and be able to play with a full team each week. We do not want to limit the number of players we accept into our program.  We must make sure our teams are fully rostered, but we must also make sure that they are not so big that playing time is limited.
